Prince Barrister Ephraim Ilonzeh, the President-General of Abagana town while presenting and commissinoning the edifice explained that the community was inspired to build the structure because of the need for accommodation and office complex for the institution.
He said that the people of Abagana were happy to have the tertiary institution situated on their land as they have immensely benefitted from the institution in various ways including the increased desire and interest in education among the youths of the town
His words " The people of Abagana were pushed to erect this building because the institution lacked offices and other accommodation facilities so we decided to provide them with this one and also make the environment convenient for them to work in."
"Education is one of the most important aspects of development and since National Open University of Nigeria was established in Abagana it has not only helped in developing the community but has made our young ones focus more in acquiring education"
Earlier in his remark the Vice Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe , who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof Patrick Eke Eya, expressed his blithesomeness over the project, describing it as one of the best in south east.
He commended the community for the good gesture and their unreserved cooperation with the study center as he urged the communities playing host to National Open University of Nigeria all over the country to borrow a leaf from what Abagana people has done in other to develop and improve the education sector nationally
" I feel happy and proud about the project that the people of this community have done and presented to NOUN, I am grateful to them because what they have done today will out live them because their children and grand children will benefit from it so other communities should learn from them." He explained
On the issue of non accreditation of courses like Law, he explained that the institution was "following up the issue procedurally" and expressed confidence that shortly the matter will be resolved and Law grandaunts from NOUN will commence their Law school.
In the same vein, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Kate Omenugha represented during the occasion by Chief Sir Clems Ofoedu expressed readiness by Anambra State Government to partner with NOUN in making the Study Centre a citadel of learning.
Omenugha noted that Chief Willie Obiano's administration has demonstrated excellence in educational sector, adding that the government was committed in uplifting the standard of education in Anambra State.
