WE REJECT BOKO HARAM IN ANAMBRA STATE - AMATAS

A group under the aegis of Amalgamated Market Traders Association of Anambra State (AMATAS) this morning carried out a peaceful protest to kick against the move to transfer boko haram prisoners from prisons in the north to Anambra state prisons.

The peaceful remonstration which was carried out in all parts of the state stalemated movement and other commercial activities in the state as major markets were shut down all through the period of the protest.

The protesters who carried placards with different inscription such as 'Buhari - Prosecute boko haram suspects in the north not in Anambra state' 'Buhari - Our state is save and clean no boko haram' 'Buhari- Anambra is not bomb state' among others.

Speaking with our correspondent the zonal chairman of Amalgamated Market Traders Association of Anambra State (AMATAS) Chief Emeka Jude Agumba described the move by the federal government to transfer boko haram prisoners to Anambra state prison as an irrational one as it will leave the once peaceful state of Anambra exposed to terrorist, kidnapers and other form of criminality.

He explained that the governor Chief Willie Obiano had done so much in the security sector to relatively reduce crime in the state pointing out that the state had never enjoyed the magnitude of peace and tranquility currently been enjoyed under the present government of Chief Willie Obiano.

"We are here to kick against the plan to bring boko haram prisoners to Anambra state. Anambra state has been calm since the inception of Governor Willie Obiano as the governor.  We don't want boko haram here in Anambra state. If they want to end it, they should do it in the north where it started and not bring it to the East."

"We want to continue enjoying the peace and calm we have been enjoying here. Like you know kidnapping has become a thing of the past and other type of crime has been drastically reduced in our state. It is unfortunate that federal government wants to take away our peace from us but since we are practicing democracy, we say no to that. We want development, schools, ministers, 2nd Niger bridge and not boko haram " he requested.
