The traders in their large numbers carried placards with different inscriptions such as "we don't want crises like new parts" "no chams register no election for Abada traders" "our old register is outdated pls" among others besieged the state house of assembly asking the law makers to look into their plight.
The spokesperson of the traders, Chief Charles Okudo alleged that the state ministry in-charge of the conduct of their market election has decided to use an old market register which is not updated and does not contain names of most of the traders who joined the Abada market when it was upgraded.
Chief Okudo explained that they had earlier been issued with the Anambra state identity card which was used for voting during other market elections and wondered why the ministry had to decide to use an obsolete market register in the conduct of the scheduled election.
The traders therefore appealed to the Anambra state house of assembly to intervene in the matter to avoid creating unnecessary panic and destruction of property in the market.
Addressing the traders, the chairman house committee on judiciary, Mr Chugbo Enwezor commended their peaceful conduct and promised that efforts would be made to reach the concerned authorities with a view of ensuring lasting peace in the market.
