In a bid to promote and encourage academic excellence among Ndi Anambra and to ensure that focus is shifted from money bags to academic banks, the managing director of De Geogold Hotels & Suites, Awka, Chief Sir Ndubuisi Nwobu has organized an award giving reception in honour of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Enugu State University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellors and 3 other notable scholars from the State.
Sir
Nwobu in his welcome address explained that the aim for the reception was to
recognize great achievers who had put in a lot of hard work and diligence to
attend great heights in their various careers.
He
said “we want to promote, recognize and showcase excellence. Excellence which
has been achieved through dint of hard work, diligence, perseverance,
administrative and academic high ground”
He
further explains that De Geogold Hotel & Suites which offers hospitality
with love had taken it as her responsibility to promote and encourage
individuals who has excelled in their different field of endeavors, this is to encourage
them to do more, and make young ones emulate and aspire to be like them. He
frowned at the level at which the society recognizes money bags instead of
academic and administrative achievers, describing it as the bane of our present
society.
He said “While we do business, its part of our
corporate social responsibility to nuture leaders for our community, state and
as well nation. As you can see none of them is a money –bag, rather they
are academic and Administrative banks. This will go a long way to encourage the
young ones to embrace hard work instead of the get rich quick kind of life
style”
The
Executive Governor of the state Chief Willie Obiano in his remark expressed
delight for the initiative and thanked the organizers for coming up with such
idea, noting that the initiative will go a long way to reduce decadence among
workers at all level.
The
governor who was ably represented by the commissioner for information culture
and tourism, Dr. Barr Uju Nwogu, congratulated the award recipients as he noted
that his administration had achieved so much within a short period of time especially
in the security sector, boasting that Ndi Anambra can now sleep with their two
eyes closed. The governor urged all and sundry to support his administration
for the progress of the state and Ndi Igbo in general.
While
speaking with our correspondent, visibly elated permanent secretary Ministry of
youth and sport, Dr Emma Ude Akpeh thanked the organizer Chief Sir Ndubuisi
Nwobu for deeming it fit to recognize him for such an award. He explained that
the award had really motivated him and pledged to do more for the growth and
progress of the civil service and the society at large.
The
high point of the event was the issuing of awards to the recipients which
include, Prof. J. E. Ahaneku, Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe university, Prof.
Luke Anike-Vice Chancellor, Enugu State University of science and technology,
Prof. Sunny Nwankwo- Provost Nigeria Defense Academy, Kaduna
Others
include Dr Dan Ezeanwu-Permanent Secretary (Secretary to the State Governement's
Office) and Dr Emma Ude Akpeh- Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth &
Sports.
