The Nigerian institute of architects (NIA), Anambra state chapter has expressed desires to work with the government of the state under the leadership of Chief Willie Obiano to build and develop the state.
The state
chairman of the professional body Arch Peter Okpala in his welcome address
during the annual conference of the institute at Awka with the theme “Developing An Effective Urban Master Plan for Awka Capital Territory” declared the readiness of the group
to partner with the state in the areas of infrastructural development.
He lamented
the inabilities of previous government since the creation of the state to make
effort to change the state capital from its rural nature to its current status
as the state capital as he noted that the creation of Awka Capital Territory
Development Authority (ACTDA) by Governor Obiano was a wonderful opportunity to
build a world class city in the state and equally a platform for NIA Anambra
state chapter to achieve its long desire to create a decent environment for Ndi
Anambra.
He further
thanked the governor for his giant strides achievements within a short period
and reminded him of “the need to continue to break his own records with more
other projects that will enhance the life of the citizens of the state.”
Also C.E.O
of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Arc Micheal Okonkwo in
an interview with news men enjoined residents of Awka and its environs to key
into the project by abiding by the institutions rules and guidelines.
He stressed
the need for intending builders and builders to summit master plan to the
agency and advised that they “should endeavor to always employ the services of
professionals as it will help curb quacks and building collapse”
The highlight
of the event was the presentation of award of “most professionally friendly
governor of Anambra state” to the Governor Willie Obiano. Other recipients
includes the former secretary to the state government, Mr Oseloka Obaze and
past commissioner for works Arc Callistus Illozulumba
