station said to belong to a relation of the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Godswill Akpabio along Nwaniba Road in the state capital.
Our state correspondent reports that the filling station owned by Prince
Ukpong Akpabio which was at about nine percent completion and located directly
opposite Uruan Street was brought down under the supervision of the Uyo Capital
City Development Authority (UCCADA) officials who were accompanied to the scene
by some stern looking mobile police men.
The demolition of the said filling station which was built on top of a
drainage channel has raised mixed reactions from the public who viewed it as
personal vendetta allegedly orchestrated by the incumbent governor against
Prince Akpabio over an old score.
Others hailed the action of the governor which they firmly believed is
aimed at sensitizing the area of illegally cited filling stations in the city.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered owners of filling stations
located along residential areas to, within fourteen days produce approvals
issued them by the UCCDA to operate or face severe sanctions.
The government in a press statement issued by the chief press secretary
to Deacon Udom Emmanuel, Mr. Ekerette Udoh said it would not fail to clamp down
on such illegal structures.
