We reports that commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders,
yesterday, defied Anambra State government’s ban, preventing them from operating on some major roads the state’s urban centres.

Areas restricted for Okada and tricycle operators include Amansea –Awka expressway, Zik Avenue and Arthur Eze avenue in Awka, as well as Borromew-Upper Iweka, Awka Road, Oguta Road, New Market Road and Old Market Road in Onitsha. Two major roads in Nnewi, the Oba –Nnewi and Nnobi –Nnewi roads were also affected.
The ban took effect, yesterday. However, while the operators complied in the morning , they later swarmed the restricted streets without fear.
Some of them, who spoke to Vanguard in Awka and Onitsha, said they were ready to confront government on the issue because they had nothing else to do.
According to them, the restricted areas are the major areas they do their business because the affected roads traversed the cities.
The riders added that once somebody was on one side of the town, there was no way he could cross over to the other side.
Passengers were also patronizing them freely, with some of them hoping that the ban might eventually fail.
