Local Government Area, Anambra state was yesterday, thrown into pin-drop silence as a middle aged woman alleged adultery against her husband.
Narrating her predicament as a witness giving
evidence in support of a petition for dissolution of her three-year old
marriage with Mr Elijah Amaku, Mrs Chioma Amaku told the court that her husband
is a “habitual adulterer.”
According to her, Elijah sleeps with several
women under the pretence of conducting spiritual deliverances on them. She
further said that she got fed up with their marriage when Elijah began to bring
these women, including under-aged girls into their matrimonial bed.
Mrs Amaku also told the court that even her
two-year old boy could not sway Elijah to stop committing adultery on their
matrimonial bed.
She testified that all her personal efforts
to make Elija have a change of mind proved abortive.
Giving his own evidence during cross-examination
of his wife, Mr Elijah denied the allegation of adultery.
According to him, he has no quarrel with
Chioma for which their customary marriage should be dissolved. Pastor Elijah
told the court that his mother-in-law, an unidentified woman from Ojoto, is the
source of any problem between him and Chioma.
In answer to a question from his lawyer over
what he meant by Chioma's mother being the source of their problem, Elijah told
the court that his mother-in-law is pushing her daughter into another marriage.
He added that the trouble with Chioma's
mother began over who should name their child. He further urged the court to
grant him the custody of the only child of their marriage.
