Contrary to stories being peddled within the length and breadth of Anambra State to the effect that the state is broke going by the slow pace of work on the three fly-overs being constructed along the Awka end of the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, the state government yesterday said it was not broke.
The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mrs. Uju Nwogu said in Awka
yesterday that the state governor, Willie’ Obiano is still working and nothing is distracting him.
She said although times are hard but that does not in any way mean that on-going projects would be abandoned.
“The Governor Obiano is still working. We accept that the economy generally is bad, but we are still working.
“The Obiano administration is committed to its obligation to the people, their welfare and the overall development of the state. We pay salaries of the state’s work force on the 25th of every month, and just a few days ago, the state government flagged off a N2 billion loan scheme for small and medium scale enterprises in the state to assist their businesses”, she said, adding, “Anambra is not broke.”
