The Anambra state command of National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency, (NDLEA) have impounded drugs weighing up to 42.864 from drug peddlers
in he state.
Commander of the Agency in Anambra State, Mr. Sule Momodu
disclosed this on tuesday during his monthly press briefing at the command's
headquarters, Awka.
Momodu while giving further breakdown of its activities for
the month of May also disclosed that 31 Male suspects were arrested for various
drug related offences while 3 persons have been convicted in court.
He appealed on Anambra communities to provide the command
with useful information that would lead to the arrest of any drug peddler in
their areas even as he assured of maximum protection of their informants'
identity .
Momodu, while pleading with the communities singled out Gov.
Willie Obiano for special praise. 'Obiano has done very well in the area of
security and should be supported. Everybody should encourage the Governor for
his zero tolerance to drug abuse and crime.
'Ever since he came on board Anambra State has experienced
peaceful atmosphere devoid of crime and other drug related offences have been
reduced drastically .
'We have a mandate of
reducing the availability of drugs in the streets of Anambra State to the
barest minimum and to make Anambra safe for local and foreign investors.
'NDLEA, As a member of Security Council of the State and a
member of the joint security task force (Operation Nkpochapu) we are poised to
rid the State of drug peddlers . Drug peddlers should please leave Anambra
State for good. We are working because Gov. Willie Obiano wants us to work,'
