APGA senatorial candidate for Anambra-central senatorial zone in the
just concluded national assembly elections Chief Victor Umeh has charged
the president-elect Gen.Mohammadu Buhari to probe the conduct of the
2015 elections in south-eastern Nigeria .
Umeh who apparently faulted the conduct of the 2015 elections in the
south-east geo-political zone , said that the president-elect upon
assumption of office should set machinery in motion to investigate the
electoral process stressing that it was already national knowledge that
the 2015 elections in the south-east was a charade .
Umeh who spoke to journalists at the judiciary headquarters Awka at the
weekend after filing his petition at the election tribunal challenging
what he described as fraudulent declaration of Hon.Uche Lilian Ekwunife
as winner of the March 28 , 2015 senatorial election in Anambra-central ,
stated that Gen.Mohammadu Buhari should probe the role played by INEC
officials and security agencies in the conduct of the election with a
view to purnishing those found culpable as well as make subsequent
elections in the south-east be like elections in the south-west and
northern Nigeria respectively .
The APGA national chairman also admonished the president-elect to
vigorously pursue electoral reforms in the country to enable the country
have credible elections henceforth for the sustenance of democracy and
fair-play . He therefore emphasized that the electoral reforms must not
be partial as evident in the out-going administration but a full-scale
electoral reform for Nigeria .
Furthermore Umeh told journalists that he was at the tribunal to
formally file his petition challenging what he saw as fraudulent
declaration of Hon.Uche Ekwunife as the winner of the senatorial
election conducted on the 28 of March 2015 for Anambra-central
senatorial district . He explained that he filed 21copies of the
petitions adding that the commencement of his litigation process showed
that he has done the needful and not resorting to brigandage to obtain
justice .
Although he stated pointblank that he was not desperate to be a senator
but decided to embark on the court process so as not to dissappoint the
voters of Anambra-central who voted massively for him and he won the
election . Apart from that Umeh said he was resolute to preserve ,
protect due process and democratic tennets and equally protect his party
that has been a victim of electoral fraud over the years .
'I am convinced that if the judiciary rises to the occasion , justice
will be done to all of us " stressing that he was not afraid of the
judicial process in Nigeria as he has won all his cases in the last 12
